Could I ask a favor?

Published March 23, 2016 by lynn k scott

I typically don’t ask for favors, but I am now.

I have a talented friend, Tom, whom I met because of my sister.  He is a veteran and has entered a contest.  I would like to see his drawing get the most “likes”.  If you have Facebook, and it’s not too much trouble, could you please click on the link, “like” the drawing and feel free to say a few words in a comment if the moment moves you to do so.

Then, if you wouldn’t mind either sharing this blog or the link on your own Facebook wall, it would be a double dose of kindness.

So here’s the link, Jessie’s Warriors,

Thank you so much!

Working on Being Crafty

Published March 18, 2016 by lynn k scott

If you have Facebook, or worse, Pinterest, you can become bombarded by a multitude of crafts, home “shortcuts” or “hacks”.  From upcycling old clothes to any number of DIY (Do It Yourself) crafts and decorations.

Alas, I fell into the trap.  I admit, I’m thrifty as they come.  I am trying to create simple, but crafty, pieces, while bringing some holiday cheer into the house at the same time.

I saw this adorable Easter-themed piece on Facebook and thought, “I can do that”.  It took me a couple weeks to gather the necessary items.  Part of that is my fault, because I wanted to find the items on sale.  I’m a couponer and I don’t pay full retail when I don’t have to.

I had several glass pieces I could use at home.  I made a quick trip to Michael’s to get two crafting items and decided I was ready to put this centerpiece together.  I knew I wasn’t assembling exactly the way I had seen it done, but I was using what I had on hand.  I think it turned out pretty good.  Good enough to get to me attempt another centerpiece down the road.  What do you think?

Now the “Welcome Spring” sign wasn’t part of the initial centerpiece, but it was there and thought it matched nicely.  Quite frankly, I’m ready for Spring and then Summer.  As for the peeps, I know the original design broke them all apart.  My OCD wouldn’t let me do this, because the one I separated, didn’t stand like I wanted it to.  I quickly “reattached” it to the other peeps and used 4 at a time and then pressed them into the glass.

All in all, I have a pretty design that lasts a couple weeks.  The peeps seems to be shrinking now.  I don’t mind really; except that my daughter is eyeing them like a lion stalking it’s prey.  She has “sampled” two peeps because they weren’t as pretty as when I first made the centerpiece.

I will continue my quest to be crafty.

A Child’s Viewpoint

Published March 17, 2016 by lynn k scott

Last year, this was the conversation I had with my then, 9-year old daughter.  I read it this morning and laughed all over again.  You really have to love a child’s viewpoint.

Lil miss: Mommy? Do you know why we celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day?

Me: Yes, do you?

Lil miss: Yup, because we are leprechauns!

Me: Not quite.

Lil miss: Well look how short we are.

Me: *face palm*

QOTD: Topic – Perspective

Published March 15, 2016 by lynn k scott

“Sometimes we may ask God for success, and He gives us physical and mental stamina. We might plead for prosperity, and we receive enlarged perspective and increased patience, or we petition for growth and are blessed with the gift of grace. He may bestow upon us conviction and confidence as we strive to achieve worthy goals.”  (David A. Bednar)

Checking In

Published March 1, 2016 by lynn k scott

Since quarter to four on a still dark morning, and I have been awake since 2:30, why not check in with everyone?

I do have to get up for work in a couple hours, but I will be going in a bit late.  Need to stop off at the dentist for an emergency visit.  Seems my chipped tooth has created quite the infection.  Yesterday I could have been auditioning for a squirrel gathering nuts in its cheek.

My face was so swollen, I looked deformed and my coworkers felt bad for me.  I can’t say enough for the two little capsules of penicillin I found while searching my medicine for something to relieve the pain.

I know, I know, shouldn’t take left over meds, could cause the antibiotics not to work in the future.  Desperate times, my friends.  At least my cheek is now a bit swollen, I was able to sleep without an ice pack on and off my face all night and the pain has been greatly reduced.

I still hate the dentist, but at least now this problem has a resolution in sight.  More antibiotics should be forthcoming, then we can crown or pull this tooth.

There is a bright side.  Since I had to wait for an appointment, got to love managed dental care, the liquid diet has helped me shed a few pounds.  Gotta look for the positive, right?

I will be back to writing more soon.  Just wanted to check in since I was able to have a coherent thought.
